Hungarian Goulash
Ingredients: 2 medium onions, 2 tps of butter/Lard, 1tbs caraway seed, 2tbs of paprika (spicy or mild) , 1/4 Flour, 1 1/2 pound of beef , 2 cups of water, 2 cups of diced tomato , 1tbs of salt (more/ less to your own liking) , 1/4 tbs black pepper, 1/2 cup of carrots , 3 cups of potato. For more flavour Univer Gulyas cream paste can be added.
Cooking:
- In a large pot melt the butter/ lard and add the onions , cook until translucent. Stir in caraway seeds and paprika after mix well.
- In a bowl dredge the stew beef with the flour.Add beef to the onion mixture and cook for 2-3min.
- Slowly add 1/4 cup of water to lift the brown bits from the pans bottom. Then add the remeaining diced tomatoes,carrots, potatos and finally salt/ pepper. (Univer Gulyas Paste if desired)
- Stir and bring to boil,cover the dish then reduce to simmer for about 1 to 2 hours, or until tender.
- Portioned for 4 people.
