Description

Ischler Cookies (Isler Sütemény)

Ischler cookies are traditional Austrian sandwich cookies that became popular throughout Central Europe, especially in Hungary. They consist of two buttery shortcrust biscuits filled with fruit jam (usually apricot or red currant) and often flavored with ground nuts such as almonds or hazelnuts. The cookies are then covered with a layer of rich dark chocolate glaze.

These delicate pastries are named after the Austrian spa town of Bad Ischl, where they were first created in the 19th century, and they are often served during festive occasions such as Christmas. Their combination of crumbly dough, tangy jam, and smooth chocolate makes them a timeless favorite.
